Information about Texas Death Certificates

Texas Death Certificates are a great resource to find valuable family information. They often state date of birth, date of death, place of birth, place of death, cause of death, place of residence, length of residence, burial place, undertaker or funeral home, names of parents, and origins of parents. However, the information is only as great as the informants knowledge of the person.

The State of Texas did not require the counties to provide death certificates to the state offices until 1903. The State of Texas did not start penalizing counties for not turning them in until the mid-1920's. So the records between 1903-1920 are a hit or miss, especially with the smaller counties. My personal experience is, if the Texas Death index does not show a record, then there is probably not one, however, I have found several that were not in the posted indexes by looking them up manually. Therefore, if you place an order, and a certificate is not found, I cannot refund the price of the services, but you can be assured, I have provided a thorough search, and can say that the state of Texas does NOT have a copy of the death certificate. The county would need to be your next step in finding either a death certificate or an obituary. If you have questions, please do not hesitate in asking. Email Me
